
George A. Russell Jr. is executive vice president and director of Community Affairs for State Street Corporation. He has more than 30 years of experience in banking and finance, beginning his career at State Street Bank & Trust Company in Boston. Mr. Russell served as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of the City of Boston, and President and CEO of Freedom National Bank of New York. In addition to managing State Street’s community affairs division, Mr. Russell is the Chairman of the Board and President of the State Street Foundation and responsible for State Street’s philanthropic and community support programs globally. He is past chairman of the board for both the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts and the Financial Services Academy. He currently serves on the board of directors of One United Bank, which is the second largest African American owned and operated commercial bank in the United States, Tufts Health Plan Foundation, and is on the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Math & Science Initiative. Mr. Russell is a graduate of Clark University and received his MBA in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
The ICIC Tournament is a one day, round robin tennis tournament that honors the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., acknowledges an individual or organization who makes our Junior Tennis Program possible, raise funds for the Junior Tennis Program and allows participants to meet, get to know and play tennis with children in the STC Junior Tennis Program.
Sportsmen's Tennis Club was chartered in 1961 with the goal of providing free or affordable high quality tennis programs for inner-city youth. Today, over 2,500 children enjoy tennis, academic and social programs at STC every year.
